The Great Stupa of Sanchi, constructed by Emperor Ashoka thousands of years ago and decorated with some of the best Buddhist art in the world, is the region’s main attraction. Since Emperor Ashoka constructed the Great Stupa at Sanchi in the third century BC, it has served as the epicenter of the Buddhist religion in the area.
