Why is the Yamunotri Temple famous in India?Yamunotri is part of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage, which is regarded as holy by Hindus along with Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri. It is both the abode of Goddess Yamuna and the source of the Yamuna River. Yamunotri, a popular tourist destination known for its thermal springs and glaciers, is located in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi District. The Champasar Glacier, which is located below Banderpoonch Peak, is the source of the Yamuna.

The Yamunotri temple closes on Diwali and reopens on the auspicious day of Akshaya-Tritiya keeping it closed over the winter. The idol is currently located in Kharsali, a village.
