The fields of radioactivity and radiochemistry were pioneered by the German chemist Otto Hahn. He is referred to as the father of nuclear chemistry and “the father of nuclear fission. In 1944, he received the Chemistry Nobel Prize for his research on the fission of heavy nuclei.
