Guru Purnima is mostly celebrated to honor teachers, but it has a rich history. According to our sacred texts, Lord Shiva, the yoga’s original instructor, began teaching the Saptrishis on this day.
Hindus worship Ved Vyasa on Guru Purnima Day. The most revered guru in ancient India is thought to be Ved Vyasa. He created the four Vedas, the Mahabharata, several Puranas, and other important works of Hindu mythology. Since Ved Vyasa is regarded as the first guru of the Hindu religion, Guru Purnima Day is also observed as Vyasa Purnima in his honor.
It is believed that Guru Purnima is also regarded as lucky in Buddhism.
