Why do we celebrate International day of non-violence on October 2nd?On October 2, the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, it is recognized as the International Day of Nonviolence. According to United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/61/271, it was formed on June 15, 2007. The goal of the day is to “disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness… and reiterate the desire for a culture of peace” that values tolerance, understanding, and non-violence. Although it is not a public holiday, it is honored in many different ways all around the world, frequently to raise awareness of global issues.
