The General Assembly declared December 18 to be International Migrants Day (A/RES/55/93) on December 4, 2000, in recognition of the vast and growing number of migrants around the world. The International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families was ratified on that day in 1990 by the Assembly.
