The Ratha Yatra of Puri, also known as the Ratha Jatra, is an Indian Hindu celebration honoring the god Jagannath that takes place at Shri Kshetra Puri Dham in the Indian state of Odisha. The Brahma Purana, the Padma Purana, the Skanda Purana, and the Kapila Samhita all describe it as the oldest Ratha Yatra. This Ratha Yatra commemorates the event when the Hindu god Jagannath, a manifestation of Vishnu or Krishna, traveled to his aunt’s home. Adherents commemorate this as Jagannath’s annual trip to the Gundicha Temple via the Mausi Maa Temple, which is close to the residence of his maternal aunt in Saradha Bali, Puri.
On Ashadha Shukla Paksha Dvitiya, the second day of the light fortnight in the Ashadha month of the Odia Calendar, this annual celebration is observed.
