World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The World Health Organisation, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organisations (IFBDO), and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) organised the event for the first time in 2004 to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their selfless, life-saving donations of blood.
