The idea of an International Hydrography Day was accepted by the IHO in 2005 and “welcomed” by the UN General Assembly in Resolution A/RES/60/30 Oceans and the Law of the Sea. The International Hydrographic Organization’s founding anniversary falls on the day that has been designated as World Hydrography Day.
