The day aims to raise public awareness of the effects of human activity on the ocean, create a global movement of ocean citizens, and mobilize and bring people together around a project for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans. On June 8, 2022, the UN will hold the first-ever hybrid commemoration of the yearly event, which will be held in person at the UN Headquarters in New York and live-streamed online.
