Every year on July 11, there is a celebration known as World Population Day to raise public awareness of issues related to the world population. The event was started in 1989 by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme. It was motivated by curiosity in Five Billion Day, which took place on July 11, 1987, roughly the day the world’s population surpassed five billion. World Population Day aims to increase public understanding of a variety of population-related issues, including the value of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights. When he was Senior Demographer at the World Bank, Dr. K.C. Zachariah suggested the five billionth person on the planet.
