Gautam Buddha was referred to as the “Enlightened One” and the “Light of Asia.” According to Gautam Buddha, enlightenment is the removal of ignorance. The light inside is turned on by enlightenment. When Gautama Buddha learned that we must give up desire, he was able to overcome all of his sufferings. Gautama Buddha believed that this world was filled with sorrow, but this light dispels all darkness. He eventually attained a state of unending bliss known as Nirvana, after which he propagated his message of Nirvana throughout the world, including Asia. That’s presumably the reason he’s referred to as the light of Asia.
