Sir William Ramsay discovered the inert gaseous elements in the air and analyzed them. His discovery of the inert gaseous elements in the air and his analysis of where they fit into the periodic table earned him the 1904 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He first identified helium and then argon, after which he identified the other noble gases.
